Så många som bär insulinpump har problem med att hitta en bra lösning för hur de skall förvara den när de sover. En del har den lös i sängen vilket innebär en stor risk att fastna i slangen och därmed dra ut infusionsetet. Vilket kan bli farligt. Många störs också av pumpen och vaknar flera gånger per natt. Vi har utvecklat trosor och kalsonger med ficka för just sovande med insulinpump. Vi tillhör dem som inte tycker om att sova med en midjeväska och ändå sova ostört. När du har pumpen i tros/kalsongfickan syns inte pumpen, du märker den inte, du kan resa dig upp ur sängen utan att behöva hålla i pumpen. Ingen kommer åt din pump eller slang (om du förvarar slangen på insidan av din byxa).

Making the future products for diabetics at Roche diabetes meet up

Every year ATTD takes place in Europe, ATTD stands for Advanced Technology and Treatments for Diabetes. It is a diabetes conference, where all the latest and upcoming technical equipment for diabetes treatment is presented. Additionally, doctors and companies present studies of these devices and technology, but also medications. It’s nice to see all the news and meet all these people who are so committed to the search of new technology for diabetes treatment. It will come even more exciting and fantastic equipment to facilitate life with diabetes.

We feel privileged to have been invited to ATTD 2017 in Paris on 14-16 February and to participate in the Roche Diabetes Meet up with 30-40 diabetes bloggers from all around the world. Most of the bloggers have type 1 diabetes or are the parents of children with type 1 diabetes. By having these creative meetings Roche takes the opportunity to really understand the needs of diabetics, to develop products that we diabetics really need and want to use. It’s incredibly interesting to be involved in these discussions to support the development to make dealing with diabetes easier, more fun and cooler. The meeting also included a visit to the ATTD. Following you will find a short summary from ATTD.

Eversense, the new CGM everyone is talking about, has an implantable sensor inserted under the skin. The sensor lasts for 90 days and the transmitter can be put on and removed easily. Right now Eversense is tested by the AnnaPS Ambassador Josefin Palmén and would you like to see a video showing this please see the video on AnnaPS_Scandinavia Instagram from ATTD. The Eversense is sold by Roche. The measurement is based on an optical technic and is much more stable than the technic used by for example Dexcom.

Regarding CGM, studies were presented showing that the number of minutes with low and high blood sugar levels are reduced drastically when a CGM is used. Research also shows that when people stop using CGM, they turn back to being outside preferred range as they were before having the CGM. This applies regardless of age and level of education. As soon as you wear the CGM you dare to take more insulin and can act earlier when you feel you are going to get out of the preferred range. It also enables a closed-loop system (where the pump and CGM operate together).

Many new applications have been developed to make it possible to use your mobile or smart watch to monitor your blood sugar levels. This is unfortunately available mostly for Android, due to Apples operating system IOS being more of a closed system. We were also told that the major challenge for medical companies to link their products to our mobiles is because of the frequent updates of operating systems. It just becomes more difficult to ensure that everything works in each new version, when it is not the Diabetes companies own systems. When you think about it, it feels more stable having a unit from a diabetes equipment manufacturer guaranteeing that it works. Imagine the panic if you make an update to the phone and you can not longer control your insulin pump or monitor your blood sugar level.

Obviously we had time to discuss diabetes tips with each other and also take a long lovely jogging tour in the sunrise along the Seine. What I think a lot about at such moments is that I meet a number of diabetics who tell me how burning fat is not possible with active insulin supplied to the body. This is in contrast to those who do not have diabetes. Lot of diabetics have however found the key how to burning fat is possible during long exercise and it is fantastic for the diabetes. How they do, we will tell you another time.

Varje år arrangeras ATTD (Advanced Technology and Treatments for Diabetes) vilket är en diabeteskoferens i Europa där all den senaste och kommande tekniska utrustning för diabetesbehandling presenteras av företag. Dessutom presentera läkare och företag studier som visar hur bra dessa utrusningar och även mediciner är. Det är roligt att se allt nytt och träffa alla dessa människor som är engagerade i framtidens teknik inom diabetes. Det kommer mycket spännande och bra utrustning som kommer underlätta livet med diabetes ytterligare.

Vi har förmånen att vara inbjudna till ATTD 2017 i Paris den 14-16 februari för att deltaga i Roche Diabetes möte med 30-40 tal diabetesbloggare från hela världen. Det är många som själva har diabetes typ 1 men även föräldrar till barn med typ1 diabetes. Genom olika övningar så ges Roche möjligheten att verkligen förstå diabetikers behov för att kunna utveckla produkter som vi diabetiker verkligen vill ha. Det är otroligt intressant att få vara med i dessa kreativa diskussioner och skapande för att göra diabetes lättare, roligare och coolare. I mötet ingår också att besöka själva mässan och vi har här gjort en kort summering av det senaste.

Eversense, den nya cgm:en som har en sensor som man opererar in under huden, håller i 90 dagar, transmittern går att ta bort och sätta dit. Om man fastnar så att den åker av kan man enkel bara sätta dit den igen, praktiskt och bra. Just nu testas denna av Josefin Palmen och vill ni se en film när hon visar denna så kan ni klicka in på vår instagram under #ATTD. Eversense säljs i Sverige av Rubin Medical . Själva mättekniken bygger förenklat på att blodsockret mäts med ljus och är mycket stabilare än Dexcom CGM som bygger på en annan mätteknik. Denna finns nu att få i vissa landsting och sjukhus varav vi iallafall vet Ersta Sjukhus i Stockholm. Så kolla med din läkare eller Rubin Medical om du är intresserad. Inom CGM kommer mycket och forskningen visar tydligt att antalet minuter med låga och höga blodsockervärden minskar stort när CGM bärs. Forskningen visar också att när man slutar med CGM så går man tillbaka till den nivå man hade innan man satte på CGM. Detta gäller oavsett ålder och utbildningsnivå. Vi själva känner igen oss i det. Så fort man bär CGM så vågar man ta mer insulin samt att man hinner parera känningarna. Det möjliggör också closed loop-system (där pump och cgm samverkar).

Många nya appar har utvecklas för att enkelt via mobilen och smart klocka kunna följa dina blodsockervärden. Tyvärr finns detta framförallt till Android vilket vi förstått beror på att Apples operativsystem är mer slutet. Vi fick också lära oss att den stora utmaningen för medicinföretagen att koppla sina produkter till våra mobiler är de täta uppdateringarna av mobilernas operativsystem, det blir svårt att garantera att allt fungerar i varje ny version eftersom det inte är medicinföretagens egna system. När man tänker på detta så känns det mer stabilt att ha en egen enhet för diabetesutrustningen som tillverkaren garanterar att den fungerar. Tänk paniken om man gör en uppdatering av telefonen och så kan man inte styra sin insulinpump eller få ut sina blodsockervärden.

Självklart hann vi med att prata mycket diabetestips med varandra och dessutom ta en lång härlig löprunda i soluppgången längs Seine. Det jag tänker mycket på nu är att jag senaste tiden träffat ett antal diabetiker som berättar hur fettförbränningen inte är möjlig med aktivt insulin tillfört i kroppen. Detta till skillnad mot dem som inte har diabetes. Vid träning och brist på kolhydrater används fettreserver men inte för oss med diabetes och det är en av anledningarna att vi får lågt socker och behöver äta under träning. Jag har nu mött flera som testat att göra så att fettförbränningen funkar även för oss med diabetes och de är helt lyriska över att de aldrig får känningar längre.

We visited the EASD in Munich, mid September, where Doctors, nurses, diabetics, companies and diabetes associations from all over the world come together and share and spread information about new diabetes technology and scientific

The Kaleido insulin pump – choose your color! The Kaleido insulin pump is small, colorful and have a short tubing. It is a perfect combination of a tubeless pump like an Omnipod and a pump with tubing. And the colors are great! Impossible to choose. The start kit comes with 2 pumps (you can choose different colors on these) and a hand unit (choose your color). The reservoirs are coming in mixed colors (really cool). The pump is charged in a charging station (no battery to change!) and the reservoir holds 200ml. When do we get it? The pump will be launched in the Netherlands and UK in the end of 2016. Nothing else is decided yet. We really like the good looking style and design.

MedAngel – The Sensor acting as your guard!
Really innovative! The medical guard. Have you ever thought about if the temperature is correct for your medicine? This small sensor is measuring the temperature and sends the information to your Android App (no Apple Apps today). When the temperature is to high or to low, you get a warning. Never ever damage your insulin again!

Diabetes Museum, did you know this exists? The Family Neumann collects all type of diabetic stuff (new and old) and showing it at their Diabetes museum in Munich, Germany. It is open for visitors, free entrance. If you would like to see all kind of diabetes gadgets and learn about the history, visit this place, really interesting. We saw some old stuff in the exhibition, really fun!

Test and feedback to Accu-Chek new CGM. At Roche Diabetes meet-up in Munich approx 30 diabetic Bloggers from all over the world was invited. We got a demo of the new CGM that will be launched in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands at the end of 2016. It has great design and it seams to have very high accuracy. It is not yet integrated with any insulin pump. This means everyone can use it. Roche took the chance to get feedback.

Allergic reaction from the infusion set? Check the insulinpump from Accu-Chek without glue and sticker.

This was all from EASD for this time. Great to see all news and chance to meet all these great diabetics in the world!

Det är roligt att kunna berätta diabetesnyheter. Vi blev inbjudna till EASD i München i mitten av september. Här samlas läkare, sjuksköterskor, diabetiker, diabetesföretag och alla världens diabetesförbund och delger och tar del an ny teknik och forskning inom diabetes.

Kaleido insulinpump- välj dina färger! Kaleido insulinpump är en liten, färgrann pump med kort slang. Det är en perfekt kombination av en slanglös pump (som Omnipod) och en vanlig pump med slang. Den finns i grymma färger och det är helt omöjligt att välja, man vill ha alla! Startkitet kommer med 2 stycken pumpar (valfritt att välja olika färger på dessa), en handenhet (du väljer färg) samt att reservoarerna kommer i en påse med mixade färger (så snygga!). MedAngel, den lilla sensorn som vaktar ditt insulin! Detta är en ny intressant innovation av ett antal diabetiker i Tyskland. En sensor som placeras vid insulinet, tex i kylskåpet, diabetesväskan. Sensorn skickar information till din Android (en app), tyvärr finns denna möjlighet inte ännu för Apple enheter. Om temperaturen blir för låg eller hög så får du en varning. Så nu är det slut på förstört insulin!

Diabetes museum, visste du att det finns? Familjen Neuman samlar all typ av diabetesutrustning, gammalt som nytt, och visar detta i sitt diabetes museum i München i Tyskland. Det är öppet för besök och gratis inträde. Här hittar du ”allt”, gamla mätare, sprutor, mediciner mm. samt att man verkligen lär sig historien. Kul var att se nobelpriset (kopia) till insulinets uppfinnare. På EASD hade de med sig en hel del gammal (och stor!) utrustning, riktigt intressant. Ett besök rekommenderas!

Testning och återkoppling på nya CGM (kontinuerlig glukose mätning). På Roche bloggermöte dagen före EASD fick vi, ett 30-tal bloggare inbjudna från hela världen ta del av deras nya CGM-system som lanseras i Sverige, Norge, Danmark och Nederländerna i slutet av året. Den nya CGM är inte kopplad till någon insulinpump vilket innebär att alla kan använda den. Vi upplevde att den hade snygg design och mycket bra tillförlitlighet. Roche bad oss berätta alla förbättringsförslag vi såg och önskemålet om att integrera CGM till insulinpump, oavsett märke, var ett stort önskemål.

Är du allergisk mot infusionsetet? Vi hittade en pump från Accu-chek där man för in nålen och insulintillförseln under huden. Alltså man slipper klistret.

Det var kort från EASD för denna gång. Det är fantastiskt så mycket intressant teknik som är på gång! Dessutom så underbart att träffa alla engagerade inom diabetesvärlden!
